BILL OCKERMAN 1954 - 1985 STATION AGENT, RELIEF AGENT, CHIEF STATION AGENT, STATION MANAGER, COORDINATOR OF STATION TRAINING, DISPATCHER, FLIGHT SUPERINTENDENT GSW FYV DEN Just heard (via the FAL pilots newsletter) that Bill Ockerman passed away several years ago. It hit me kinda hard, because he was my favorite dispatcher. Bill signed my first release as a Captain back in '76, and I always felt that he was one of the best dispatchers we had. What happened? What was the cause? How is his family? The leaves are surely falling. -Clyde Hart (5/4/00) Thanks for bringing that to our attention, Clyde. I hadn't received word about Bill's death 1-15-2000. Does anyone have any info. Where was he living & maybe we can get an obituary? -Jake Lamkins (5/5/00) When I worked with Bill in Dispatch, he was living in PHX and commuting to Denver. -Kevin Porreco (5/8/00) Bill Ockerman was a Dispatcher that started with Central July 19, 1954. He retired from FAL in December of 1985 after 31 years of service. He was 70 when he went West. We're sure losing a lot of good people but I guess we have to expect that as we get older. -Ace Avakian (5/9/00) I worked with Bill during the start up of StatesWest here in PHX. I believe he and wife lived in either Tempe or the western part of Mesa. They had owned the home for several years while he commuted to/from DEN. I don't recall his wife's name. She was of Am. Indian decent and it was a name from that culture. -John Morgan (5/13/00) I was as surprised as you were. I had many conversations with Bill over the years working in the tower. Never met him personally - but a super nice guy. Sorry, can't give you any leads as to an obit. -Bill Fleming (5/23/00) Gone West Bill Ockerman 1-15-00 -FARPA newsletter dated Jul 2006 Cannot find anything at the SSDI for Ockerman in 2000. Nothing back to 1999 in the Arizona Republic. Nor anything in a google search. -Jake Lamkins (7/20/06) I found several articles mentioning Bill in a collection of CN Skywriters sent by Sam Warriner. Bill started at CN as a passenger service agent (what FL called a station agent) in 1954. Subsequently, he filled the positions of chief station agent, JLN station manager, Coordinator of Station Training and Information based in GSW, dispatcher and then Flight Superintendent in July 1964. As noted above, Bill was a dispatcher at FL. -Jake Lamkins (9/10/06) William R. Ockerman Date of company hire 7/19/54 on the 12/3/68 FL/ADA seniority list. Nothing in SSDI matches William or William R. Ockerman. -Jake Lamkins (7/20/09)
